Be The Match FoundationSM is raising $1 million in patient assistance grants so more patients and their families can focus on healing.  While a marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for many patients, it takes a financial toll on a family.  Often there is the temporary loss of at least one income.  And even with insurance, not all costs are covered.

“I couldn’t work for a year. The grants we received from Be The Match FoundationSMwere a gift from heaven.”

Bruce had good insurance and a strong circle of support to help him through his transplant and recovery. But it didn’t cover co-pays, daily hospital visits and other transplant-related costs.

The added expenses, combined with loss of income added up to a serious hardship. Be The Match FoundationSM helped Bruce make ends meet so he could focus on healing.

Now, Bruce has been cancer-free for almost three years.

Jaiden-Tenille Photo Jaiden received a transplant for poly enteropathy x-linked syndrome (IPEX syndrome), a rare immune disorder that is fatal when left untreated. But the transplant failed. Six months later, he got a second transplant.

His mother Tennille used up all of her allotted time off work and had to return to her job to maintain health insurance. Tennille spent her nights at the hospital while Jaiden’s father and grandfather cared for him during the day.

Uninsured medical costs added crippling, unexpected expenses the family could no longer handle. Be The Match FoundationSM was there to help, providing the support needed to see Jaiden through his second transplant and crucial aftercare.

Today, Jaiden is an active little guy, full of life and doing well.

“Confronting a deadly disease is incredibly stressful. The added financial burden makes it nearly unbearable. The help we received made it possible for us to get through this experience together.”  -- Adela’s mother, Janie.

When Adela was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), Janie had to quit her job to care for her daughter. Adela’s dad continued to work, but the loss of income put a strain on the family. Adela and Janie needed to relocate near the transplant center for three months. Adela’s dad and brother made the 10-hour trip every weekend.

Janie says, “We were fortunate to have a second car and insurance, but it didn’t cover all of the extra expenses like gas and food. Assistance from Be The Match FoundationSM made a big difference!"
Today, the family is grateful to be together again and to have Adela on the road to recovery.
