How do I sign up?

You can register online! Form a team, join a team or register as an individual walker/runner.

How much does it cost to participate?

Online registration fees:

  • $30 5K and 1K Adult
  • $15 1K Youth (17 and younger)
  • $10 Tot Trot (children 5 and younger)

Walk-up registration fees:

  • $35 5K and 1K Adult
  • $15 1K Youth (17 and younger)
  • $10 Tot Trot (children 5 and younger)

Do I have to fundraise?

There is no minimum fundraising requirement for the Be The Match Walk+Run but we are counting on your help to raise funds. Once registered, you'll have access to all the tools and tips you'll need to make fundraising easy! See below for Fundraising FAQs.

Can my child participate?

Yes, the Be The Match Walk+Run is an event for people of all ages and fitness levels. Children age five and younger can participate in the Tot Trot. Older children can participate in the 1K or 5K. Children must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.

Can I register on the day of the event?

Yes, you can register at the event and may pay by credit card, check or cash.

When I register for the Be The Match Walk+Run, does that mean I have joined the Be The Match Registry®?

No, when you register for the Be The Match Walk+Run, you are registering only to participate in the event. If you want to join the Be The Match Registry of potential marrow donors, you can take the first step online at, or you can join the registry in person the day of the event if you match the medical and age guidelines.

Can I join the Be The Match Registry at the event?

Yes! Look for the Be The Match Registry booth at the event. You will need to match the medical and age guidelines, complete a registration form with contact and health information, and give a swab of cheek cells. To help you complete the form, please bring along personal identification (such as a driver's license or passport) and contact information for two family members or friends who would know how to reach you in the future if your contact information changes.

Course and Accessibility

Can I wear rollerblades, skate or bike the route?

For the safety of all our runners and walkers, we do NOT allow participants to use rollerblades, skates or bikes during the events.

Is the route accessible to people who use wheelchairs?

Yes, the event will be accessible to people using wheelchairs.

Can strollers be used?

Yes, but we ask that walkers or runners with a stroller line up behind other participants for safety.

Can I bring my dog?

For the safety of all participants, no dogs will be allowed on the actual event course.

Event Cancellation Policies

What if it rains?

The event will take place rain or shine.

What if the event is cancelled?

Organizers will make the final decision if the event needs to be cancelled due to unsafe conditions related to weather or other emergencies. In the event of cancellation, event fees and donations will not be refunded. Participants will be notified on the event homepage.

What if I am unable to participate the day of the event?

If you have registered, but are unable to participate on the day of the event, your registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. You do not need to notify us that you cannot attend.

Using the Participant Center

What is the Participant Center?

When you register online for the Be The Match Walk+Run, you automatically get your very own Participant Center. Your Participant Center is designed to facilitate your fundraising efforts. Update your page with your story and photo, and then send emails to your contacts asking them to visit your page and make a contribution.

How can I spread the word about the Be The Match Walk+Run?

You can spread the word wherever you connect to your family and friends. In addition to online tools found in your Participant Center, we have provided additional tools you can use.

What if I forget my username and password?

To retrieve your password, log in here, scroll down to the "Forgot Password?" section, and enter the username you created when you registered or that was provided to you. Your password will be emailed to you. If you have forgotten your username, scroll down to the "Email me my Username" section and enter the email address you registered with.

Who do I contact if I have questions about the site?

Fundraising FAQ's

Is there a minimum fundraising goal I must meet?

There is no minimum fundraising goal. We encourage participants to set a goal of $100 or more. Setting a fundraising goal and reaching out to your network of family and friends is a great way to help all patients receive the marrow transplant they need, when they need it. All funds you raise will help make a difference.

Where does the money go?

Be The Match Foundation uses the funds raised to save lives in your community and nationwide by helping transplant patients receive the marrow transplant they need.

Funds raised through the Be The Match Walk+Run will help patients by:

  • Growing the Be The Match Registry
  • Helping patients with uninsured costs
  • Supporting transplant research

Can I raise money for a specific patient?

As a Be The Match Walk+Run participant, funds you raise will be used by Be The Match Foundation to help all patients in need of a marrow transplant. The funds cannot be allocated to an individual patient.

Can I fundraise through Facebook or Twitter?

Once you've registered for the Be The Match Walk+Run, you can use Facebook, Twitter or other social media to invite your friends to support you. Be sure to post regular updates as you make progress toward your fundraising goal and to publicly thank your supporters.

What if someone wants to give me a check?

If you want to bring in contributions the day of the event, please follow these steps (you can also mail checks prior to the event - instructions are on the Contribution form):

  1. Have each contributor print and complete the Contribution Form.
  2. Have contributors make checks out to Be The Match Foundation.
  3. Have contributors write Be The Match Walk+Run and your name in the memo line of their check.
  4. Put your contributions and forms in an envelope that has your name and team printed on it. This step ensures you receive credit for the collected contributions.
  5. Turn in your contribution envelope to the walk-up registration tent at the event.

Can I submit a matching gift for this event?

Many contributions can be doubled if your organization has a Matching Gifts Program. Fill out your organization's paperwork for matching gifts and submit the forms to:

Awards FAQ's

Are there awards?

Fundraising and 5K Awards will be presented during a ceremony following the race. Winners must be present to receive awards. All Tot Trot participants will receive a participation award at the end of their event.

Who will receive fundraising awards?

Fundraising awards will be given to the top three fundraising individuals and top fundraising team.

Is there a deadline for the fundraising awards?

Yes, the deadline for the top fundraising awards is the Friday before the event at 5:00 p.m. EST. Only contributions submitted by this time will be counted toward the top fundraising awards. Online fundraising will continue after the event, but fundraising award winners will be based on donations received by Be The Match Foundation by the deadline. Checks and cash donations will also be accepted on event day, but those contributions will not count in the amounts for top fundraising awards.

Who will receive 5K awards?

Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall and masters finishers (male and female).

Awards will also be presented to 1st place (male and female) finishers in the following age group categories:

  • 12 and younger
  • 13 - 19
  • 20 - 29
  • 30 - 39
  • 40 - 49
  • 50 - 59
  • 60 - 69
  • 70 +

Please Note: 5K awards are based on gun time and participants are not eligible to win an award in more than one category.
