23% - Our Black and African American patients have a 23% chance of finding a match on the registry, compared to a 77% chance for our White patients. For Hispanic or Latino patients the number is 46%. For people of mixed ethnicity, like my own kiddos, chances can be even lower.
Put another way, that means 1 out of every 4 Black or African American patients will find a matched, available donor on the registry (compared to 3 out of 4 Caucasions). That means three patients of every four are waiting and searching for a match we have promised to provide.
At Be The Match, we are committed to eliminating this disparity gap for our patients. We can no longer settle for 1 in 4 and together we have the power to change that number.
I am committed this summer to doing my part in honoring the true champions - our patients and donors.
If you are able consider a gift to support my efforts and be part of this change. Let's make it #MoreThan23 by the end of the summer.
Your gift can add new potential bone marrow donors to the registry, assist patients with uninsured transplant costs, and fund innovative research to improve transplant outcomes. Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution. Your gift delivers cures to patients desperate for a second chance at life. Every dollar counts. Together, we can make a difference! Thank you!
