I will be running the 2017 Super Heroes Half Marathon at Disneyland on November 12, 2017 to help raise money for Be The Match (the National Marrow Donor Program) and hopefully save lives. I specifically chose the Super Heroes Half Marathon in honor of our Superhero daughter Taryn, her Superhero marrow donor Ben Wells Jr, the Superhero medical team of doctors/nurses who cared for Taryn, and the Superhero blood donors who provided Taryn with red blood cells & platelets on 53 separate occasions. I also chose this particular event to acknowledge and support the thousands of families who are still searching for their own matching Superhero and the millions of potential Superhero donors who already have joined (and those who will join) the registry in hopes of saving someone's life.
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer/blood disorder. A marrow or peripheral stem cell transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, and severe aplastic anemia. Every year 14,000 patients will search for a marrow donor and 70 percent of those families will NOT find a suitable matching donor within their own family (the same was true for our family also). Thank God for Superhero Ben Wells Jr! Over the past few years, I've witnessed many miracles that have cumulated in Taryn being cured. I am truly BLESSED and forever GRATEFUL, but I've also met far too many families still searching for that same miracle, a matching donor, and ultimate cure. If you're between the ages of 18-44, in good overall health, and have not yet registered with Be The Match as a potential donor, YOU might be that miracle and match they are hoping for. Please help TEAM TARYN not only meet, but hopefully exceed our fund raising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution today. Your gift can help add new potential donors to the registry, assist patients with uncovered transplant costs, and help fund innovative research to improve transplant outcomes. Ultimately, your gift will help to provide hope and deliver cures to other patients like Taryn, offering them with a healthy future. Every dollar counts. Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of others!
