Kane was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) when he was 2 years old. The only possible cure for Kane was a bone marrow transplant. That's where Be The Match entered the picture. Kane needed an unrelated marrow match to save his life. Kane was fortunate that his "match" was registered and willing to donate without even knowing him. On 9/2/10 he received a bone marrow from his donor.
After one year, Kane was allowed to find the donor that saved his life, his hero, Lindsay. Lindsay registered her bone marrow when she was in college. In 2014, Kane was the ring bearer in Lindsay's wedding. Kane's bone marrow transplant was successful and he is now cured from SCID. He is 9 years old, in 4th grade, and is typically healthier than the rest of his family during cold and flu season, thanks to Lindsay's super cells! Lindsay saved Kane's life with her donation. Kane is such an inquisitive, intelligent, and inspiring kid! He is a survivor and is going to do amazing things with his life thanks to his donor!
Kane’s mom is getting her masters in Social Work from Illinois State and wants to make sure all searching patients have a match. This begins with YOU! Come to the drive on 9/20 from 10am-2pm in the Schroeder Hall Lobby to learn more about swabbing your cheek to join the registry. YOU could be the life-saver someone is waiting to join!
