Many of you know that I work for Be The Match, whose mission is to save lives through cellular therapy. For people who have received a diagnosis of blood cancer, aplastic anemia, and many other diseases affecting the bone marrow, a stem cell transplant is their best hope for a cure. Be The Match operates the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry, which connects unrelated potential stem cell donors to recipients in need. We do great work, but we need your support. Your financial contributions help advance the research that will make stem cell transplants even more effective, reduce disparities in outcome and access to matches, and help ensure that we are doing everything possible to let our patients get well. It's heartbreaking to watch a mother agonize about whether she's going to be alive to watch her children grow up, and know that she faces a greater hurdle because of her mixed racial background... your contributions will directly impact disparities like this.
For me personally, I ran my first 5K shortly after turning thirty, ran a few more, and then life got in the way. Taking on a 10 mile challenge before I turn 40 is a big step for me... a way to celebrate how different my life looks now versus then, a way to honor the amazing work of this organization, and way to drive myself to achieve something that at one point in my life would have been unthinkable. On October 6, along with the rest of our Be The Match Team, I will complete the Twin Cities 10-miler, and I couldn't be more excited!
Your gift of any amount goes directly to support an amazing organization, and I certainly appreciate the encouragement as I embark on this journey. Go Team Be The Match!
