Many of you joined me in honoring Mandi Schwartz and Quintan Daugherty in 2011 (https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/shoshanna-engel/shoshannaengel). Thank you! Little did I know that joining the registry in 2009 and shaving my head in 2011 only represented the early chapters of this story. On a fateful May day in 2015, I got the call. I was a possible match. Later that summer, I hooked up and donated my marrow stem cells to a 53 year-old male with leukemia somewhere in the US.
Words don't do it justice. Nor can words describe what it felt like to learn in late 2016 that the recipient was thriving. There's only one way to honor him and celebrate, right? If you haven't caught on yet...let's show some love and lose some hair! If you help me raise $2000 in two weeks, I'll donate this mop and rock the buzz again!
Sometimes it only takes a moment to save a life. Sometime is now. Don't think. Click. Swab. Give. Do what you can. It will feel good. I promise.
Did you know?
A marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matching donor in their family. They depend on Be The Match to find an unrelated marrow donor and receive the transplant they need.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution. Your gift delivers cures to patients desperate for a second chance at life. Every dollar counts. They may help someone join the registry, provide testing for potential matches, fund critical research, or assist a with transplant costs. Together, we can make a difference!
