I will be running the 2018 Chicago Half Marathon Series on May 20, 2018 and September 23, 2018, to help raise money for Be The Match, the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), a nonprofit organization that's dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. It is the largest donor registry program in the world.
Your gift can add new potential marrow donors to the registry, assist patients with uninsured transplant costs and fund innovative research to improve transplant outcomes.
A marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matching donor in their family. Much like my father, Tom, they depend on Be The Match to find an unrelated bone marrow donor and receive the transplant they need. Thanks to the NMDP my father, Tom, received two marrow transplants from an unrelated marrow donor. This unrelated donor gave hope to our family in spite of terrible odds. He provided my father with an additional year of life he would not have had without the bone marrow transplant.
My courageous father lost his battle with his rare cancer in June of 2017. I am continuing his fight by running in his memory in support of an incredible organization delivering cures to patients desperate for a second chance at life.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution. Every dollar counts. Together, we can make a difference!
