I'm running the Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa on November 24, 2019 to save lives - and you can help! Your donation can add new potential blood stem cell and bone marrow donors to the registry, assist patients with uninsured transplant costs, and fund innovative research to improve transplant outcomes.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution. Your gift delivers cures to patients desperate for a second chance at life. Every dollar counts. Together, we can make a difference!
The short story:
On January 4, 2017, I donated bone marrow to help a patient battling acute myelogenous leukemia. Through the fantastic work of Be The Match, it was an experience that I'll never forget, and now I want to help add more donors to the registry and raise money for their efforts.
The long story:
In 1999, as a 20-year-old college student, I joined what was then the bone marrow registry. 18 years later, on September 26, 2016, I got an email from Be The Match that I was a potential donor match for a patient battling acute mylogenous leukemia. After undergoing some additional tests, on January 4, 2017, I travelled to Hackensack, NJ, and donated bone marrow - and gave someone a second chance at life.
I later learned that her name is Liz, she lives in Tulsa, and that she is now leukemia-free. In fact, she's a double survivor - she kicked breast cancer's ass before beating leukemia too. We've been corresponding via email, and when I arrive in Tulsa to run the marathon we'll finally get to meet face to face!
I feel extremely lucky to have had this opportunity, and I want to do whatever I can to give those fighting blood cancers and bone marrow failure the second chances that they deserve. I'm deeply appreciative of any support you're able to provide. And if you're not already on the registry, please remedy that immediately!
