My father was diagnosed with stage III non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2008, which he battled in five bouts. He received his final course of treatment thanks to his brother - a stem cell transplant from his perfect match - about a year prior to his passing in 2016.
I am hosting a registration drive and fundraising event for Be The Match because, even after losing my father, our family was lucky in many ways. My father always had a viable treatment available (in both cost and efficacy). My father and my family were always able to have hope.
A bone marrow transplant can be the best or last treatment available for many patients with blood cancers. Be The Match provides support and means for patients that do not have a match within their own family or cannot pay for the transplant treatment.
You can support Be The Match and their mission through a tax-deductible donation or by joining the registry (information and registration available at join.bethematch.org/zimmer).
