I have teamed up with Be The Match® to raise critical funds for my close friend Mark who is fighting for his life.
Last year I launched a collection with Nike Running as an Artist in Residence. It was all about how you experience all these constant insecurities and failures when you are trying to "become a runner" - Love it at one point, and you could also hate it and want to throw it in the trash the next minute. These past few months as we have been sheltering in place I have dusted off the running shoes and began to push myself and love it again. Maybe I was just bored, or sad basketball courts were closed, or maybe something was getting me ready to join this A3M & Be The Match Virtual Walk+Run.
Mark spent his whole life helping others - as a Navy Veteran, a teacher, and Healthcare provider and now he needs our help, along with countless others on the registry. Will you join me from your home for this 5k? Donate, share, or join my team and run a 5k in your neighborhood! You can participate from home - from July 20th-24th complete a 5K by running, biking or walking your dog.
Proceeds from this event benefit the life-saving work of A3M and Be The Match.
*Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M) is a program under Little Tokyo Service Center and operates as a recruitment center for the Be The Match Registry. A3M’s mission is to improve the health and welfare of patients with leukemia and other blood cancers by educating and recruiting potential marrow donors, as well as providing patient support services. Over the past 29 years, A3M has recruited over 330,000 donors and more than 750 have moved forward to donate their marrow and blood stem cells to save a life. Based in Downtown Los Angeles, A3M conducts donor recruitment drives all over Southern California.
Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer or blood disease. Often their only hope for a cure is a blood stem cell transplant. Even though many things have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, the need for a match does not slow down or stop. Your contribution to this event will help provide that cure by helping add new potential blood stem cell donors to the registry, helping patients struggling with uninsured costs and funding innovative research to make transplant safer and more accessible to all.
