Welcome to the Team Page for Madison Middle School's first annual "Finish Melissa's Walk." This walk-a-thon and concurrent bone marrow registry drive will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, on Madison's campus (4930 Lake Blvd., Oceanside, CA 92056). Walk-a-thon t-shirts are available to order until May 4, 2016 at the following URL: www.booster.com/finish-melissas-walk
Finish Melissa's Walk is named to honor the memory of Melissa Lopez, a Madison student who lost her battle with leukemia in May, 2015. Melissa's greatest wish was to be healthy enough to join her peers and walk at her promotion ceremony last June. Sadly, she passed away just days before this ceremony. Melissa needed a bone marrow transplant, but a donor match was never found for her. See more of Melissa's story in this video: https://youtu.be/G7Zai-1Btyw.
As Melissa's friends and teachers, we hope that by holding this walk-a-thon and bone marrow registry drive, we will help raise critical funds for patients like Melissa in need of a marrow transplant as well as add new potential marrow donors to the registry. Your gift can also assist patients with uninsured transplant costs and fund innovative research to improve transplant outcomes.
Did you know a marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell? Seventy percent of patients do not have a matching donor in their family. They depend on Be The Match to find an unrelated marrow donor and receive the transplant they need.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution. Your gift delivers cures to patients desperate for a second chance at life. Every dollar counts. Together, we can make a difference!
