Team Be The Match is Important to Us

Jennifer's Story:
My name is Jennifer McGill and I am a senior at Ohio University where I play Division I field hockey. I attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic School, and graduated from Assumption High School in 2008. Last year I had the privilege of being a part of a truly life changing experience. In March of 2009, a teammate at Ohio University decided that she wanted to put together a Bone Marrow Registry Drive. I was on the team that helped organize the drive and because of that, registered and on March 1, 2010 donated bone marrow to a patient through the National Bone Marrow Registry.
The teammate who got me started in this journey, along with a cousin who is battling cancer, inspired me to want to make a difference. This summer in Louisville, I hosted registry drives at local church picnics to get people on the registry, and I successfully added over 120 people.

Katie's Involvement:
My name is Katie Norris and I am a senior at Ball State University where I play Division I field hockey and study in the nursing program. This summer I was inspired by Jen’s story and wanted to get my team involved in the National Bone Marrow Registry. Jen and I decided to bring all of the field hockey teams in the Mid-American Conference together to work towards a common cause. Our goal is to raise awareness and register as many players, family, and friends as we can.

Unfortunately, signing a person up is not free. It costs approximately $100 to register an individual for the registry. We want to raise enough money so that players may register for free and the maximum amount fans will pay is $25. With the help and generosity of members of the community, we can fulfill our vision of signing up an incredible amount of people.
