I am participating in this year’s Be The Match Walk+Run because it’s important to do right. Blood cancer has a cure. We need YOU to join the fight and help more patients.
As many of you know my brother, David Neal was diagnosed with myleofibrosis in 2012 at 48 years old. This rare blood disease only has one cure - a successful bone marrow transplant to put it in remission. My two sisters and I were tested to see if we were a match. We were not - so Be The Match searched the world for the perfect donor. They found someone in Germany who was a match and was willing to donate. While David was undergoing chemo and treatment, Be The Match helped pay some of his transplant costs. That was such a blessing to his family.
The first bone marrow transplant was not successful and Be The Match contacted the donor to request a second one. Donors are so special and committed to helping. They selflessly put their lives on hold to help someone else in need. We cannot thank him enough for his generosity. Ultimately the second bone marrow transplant was not able to control my brother's disease and he passed away in January of 2015. Many patients have success with bone marrow transplant and for many that is their only or last hope for a cure. The research is life saving. I became a registered donor in 2012. So far I have not been a match for anyone but if that day ever comes I am ready and willing to donate. For all the families that are facing critical life threatening situations - I am committed to do my part.
I’ve set a fundraising goal and I need your help to reach it.The money we raise will:
Please support me and together we can show blood cancer it has met its match.

Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia, need a marrow transplant to survive. Most patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family — and that’s when they turn to Be The Match®. By participating in a Be The Match Walk+Run, or donating funds, you are providing life-saving support to those patients in need. Do right, join the fight.
