Be The Match, my doctors and nurses, my donor, and my support staff of family and friends saved my life and I’ll be forever grateful to them, and to those that support them.
It has been almost 4 years since I received my bone marrow transplant, and a lot of things in my life have changed for the better, including the birth of our daughter Emilia in September 2015!
I was diagnosed with a disease called polycythemia vera in my early 20’s, and found out about 9 years ago that I would need a bone marrow transplant to keep the disease from turning into leukemia. From my own experience, this was extremely terrifying news to hear. In 2013 I moved forward with the transplant process, and have been extremely lucky and fortunate to have a great support system, the best doctors/hospitals in the world, and perhaps most importantly, a perfect donor match made possible by my generous donor and Be The Match. Thanks to my successful transplant, my disease is gone! My body has recovered from the transplant and I am back to living life to the fullest!
I was inspired by the people who made my transplant possible, so I have become a volunteer with Be The Match. I help other transplant recipients and their families, as well as local transplant centers, get the help and resources they need. I was extremely fortunate to have found a perfect donor match, but not everyone in my situation is so lucky. It is important to me to raise awareness and funds, so anyone in need of a transplant can have the same opportunity I was given.
If you can walk or run, or just donate to the cause, I would be very grateful.

Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia, need a marrow transplant to survive. Most patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family — and that’s when they turn to Be The Match®. By participating in a Be The Match Walk+Run, or donating funds, you are providing life-saving support to those patients in need. Do right, join the fight.
