Hello Friends and Family,
I was first introduced to Be The Match a few years ago when I attended a meeting at their site. They showed a video called A History of Curing Blood Cancers which shows the evolution of the program and the lives saved. I could barely contain my tears as I watched it and thought of my Mom. It was then that the seed was first planted for my affiliation with Be The Match.
Fast forward to today, and the reason that I’m participating in and fundraising for the Be The Match Walk+Run. My Mom was only 14 years old when her Mother died of leukemia. When she talked about it even sixty years later, she wept like it happened yesterday, she never was over her loss. When her Mother got sick, my Mom’s aunts insisted that she go to the hospital to see her, lying in her hospital bed with an oxygen tent surrounding it. It traumatized her to see her Mother wasting away. If Be The Match was doing the life-saving work that they do now at that time, I may have been lucky enough to have met my Grandmother. I believe that she was quite a woman, given who my Mom was - full of life and energy, and feisty til the end!
It's for this reason that I'm asking you to support my walk to raise funds for curing more patients with leukemia.
If you're wondering where Neon Sylph came from, it's based on both my Mom's and her Mother's names - Joanne and Phyllis. I didn't use all of the letters but I sure like what came out of the ones that I did! A sylph is a mythological spirit of the air. Fitting.
Thanks very much for your support! I appreciate it. -Andrea

Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia, need a marrow transplant to survive. Most patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family — and that’s when they turn to Be The Match®. By participating in a Be The Match Walk+Run, or donating funds, you are providing life-saving support to those patients in need. Do right, join the fight.
