In March of 2016, after a routine physical revealed some abnormal blood levels, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, a blood cancer where I have a bunch of wimpy white blood cells multiplying too quickly and crowding out my healthy white blood cells. While it was definitely a swift "kick in the gut" at the time, it was a powerful reminder of how little control I have in life and how thankful I am for each moment I am given. That season of life also led my wife, Melanie, and I both into a deeper surrender to God's sovereign will "no matter what" and we found great peace in Him for the journey ahead...wherever He would lead us.
Fortunately, my particular "brand" of CLL is currently a mild one. As I explained to our three children, the "switch" is turned on (i.e. I do have cancer), but the "dimmer" is set on low (i.e. No treatment is currently needed). Perhaps one day I will need medication or even a bone marrow transplant. But not today. Today I run.
Would you consider joining me by supporting Be The Match? The money I raise will:
Lovingly, Respectfully, Thankfully...

Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia, need a marrow transplant to survive. Most patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family — and that’s when they turn to Be The Match®. By participating in a Be The Match Walk+Run, or donating funds, you are providing life-saving support to those patients in need. Join the fight.
