Welcome to the MUD Bloods 2018 Walk Run Team page. This is our 8th event in Minneapolis and we're pleased you are considering joining and/or supporting us!
We started in 2011 to support Lisa Gareis Korslund as she recovered and gained strength following her Matched Unrelated Transplant (MUD) to treat leukemia. The MUD Bloods have raised over $130,000 since 2011 by attending events, walking, and donating. Thank you for all the support! These funds help to deliver more cures and SAVE MORE LIVES. We also support registry drives and Lisa does speaking events as needed. Finding more potential donors, continuing research and supporting patients is what we're about. Lisa is now 5+ years post transplant thanks to her German donor, Rike. Lisa and Rike celebrated her 5th year in remission at the 2015 event by crossing the finish line with the doctor who made the match, Mark Litzow. Since then, Lisa and her family have visited Rike and her family and keep in touch routinely.
The need for research and support is still high. Last summer one of my transplant buddies and someone we walked for, Andrew, passed away post transplant. He was 42, in awesome health pre leukemia, and left behind a wife and 2 young children. In August Lisa's mother, Phyllis, was diagnosed with AML, a different form of leukemia. She is now on a regime of low dose chemo to keep it at bay. Yet more reasons to support the work of Be the Match in doing research and supporting ways to identify and cure blood cancers.
I appreciate your support for this organization by donating, walking or both!
Did you know?A marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for more than 70 diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matching donor in their family. They depend on Be The Match and the global registry to find unrelated donors and receive the transplant they need.
2018 - Join us!
As always we'll have a great group of folks, a lovely walk around Lake Harriet and of course, our BBQ/Happy Hour/Social on Friday the 11th.
Thank you for stopping by and we hope to see you on May 12th!
Lisa & Team MUD Bloods
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia, need a marrow transplant to survive. Most patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family — and that’s when they turn to Be The Match®. By participating in a Be The Match Walk+Run, or donating funds, you are providing life-saving support to those patients in need. Join the fight.
