Help us Find the Match
Sunday April 7, 2013 is the 8th Annual Charlotte Checkers Salute to Heroes hockey game at Time Warner Cable Arena. This event is to honor the men and women who serve, have served or have been injured or lost in the line of duty. The evening will also serve as an educational experience for our children and hope they will come away with a greater respect for those who serve others. Following the Checkers game at 3pm you’re local Heroes from CMPD/ MCSO will square off against CFD/ MEDIC. The Heroes teams have been practicing for months and last year’s game was the most exciting ever with CMPD/MSCO winning in an overtime shootout 3-2. CFD/ MEDIC hold the lead in the series 4-3.
We think you would agree that Charlotte is the best city in the world to live in because of the work and sacrifice our heroes make on a daily basis. Each year our Fire Fighters, Police Officers, Medic’s and Sheriff’s respond to 750,000 plus calls for service or help. The men and women who answer these calls have a passion like no other to ensure our safety and respond at a moment’s notice in our time of need. Yes they are paid but there passion comes from a deep respect of wanting to help and serve others sometimes with great danger to their own personal safety.
This year we are supporting the Hendrink Marrow Donor Program. This is the 5th year this game has supported this program. This year's recipient is Jeff Reid.
Jeff is a firefighter and has served the community for 31 years. He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia in 2007, has undergone two rounds of chemo and now needs a bone marrow transplant.
We need your help in finding a match. Our goal is to raise $2,500. Please make your donations here.
Come to the game to support Jeff. Will you be the match?
