Dr. Hulon "Doc" Crayton is not only a true family man, but an inspirational leader in his community of Panama City, FL. A father of three, Doc and his wife Dinah were overjoyed to welcome their first grandchild into the world earlier this year. A renowned Rheumatologist, Dr. Crayton prides himself on providing the best care for his patients with a smile on his face. Dr. Crayton is also a successful smooth jazz saxophonist whose stage name is “Hulon.” He has released two albums since 2010, with his debut album peaking at #25 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Chart, and a recent video of his new hit single, "Two in the Morning" featuring Howard Hewett. Prior to being diagnosed with leukemia in July 2013, he was working on his third album, which he had hoped to release in the fall of 2014.
Despite his busy schedule, Doc still finds time to give back to the community and truly embodies the mantra “service above self.” Not only is he a long-time Rotarian, but he also serves on the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and has served on the boards of the Bay Arts Alliance, BASIC of Northwest Florida, the Florida State University-Panama City Development Boardand many other wonderful area organizations and charities. Dr. Crayton and his wife, Dinah, created the Crayton Foundation with the mission of helping more minorities attend college through the award of scholarships at Florida State University-Panama City and at Lincoln University in Missouri.
Dr. Crayton’s life was turned upside-down when he was recently diagnosed with leukemia. His doctors say thatq he is in urgent need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant, but there is currently not a donor match on the Be The Match Registry.
We are rallying around the Crayton family to help Doc and patients like him find a matching donor. If you are between the ages of 18 – 44 and in good health, we are asking you to join the Be The Match Registry! You will only be contacted if you are considered a qmatch for a patient in need. All it takes is a simple consent form and a cheek swab to join the Registry to see if YOU could be the ONE to save a life like Dr. Crayton's!
How You Can Help:
- Join the Be The Match Registry -If you are between the ages of 18 and 44, patients need you! All it takes is a simple cheek swab to join the Be The Match Registry and find out if you are a match for a patient in need of a bone marrow transplant. See below for information on upcoming drives for Doc, and learn about joining the Registry and the donation process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLO0Usg8vcY&feature=youtu.be.
- Join the Registry Online - NEW! - Can't make it to an upcoming local event to join the Registry? No problem! Visit http://join.marrow.org/swabfordoc to join in honor of Dr. Crayton.
- Make a Donation - Be The Match never charges potential new donors 18-44 to join the Registry, but it costs the organization $100 per person to cover the cost of DNA tests and tissue typing. Be The Match depends on charitable contributions to defer these costs and continue adding people to the Registry. Make a tax-deductible donation by clicking the "Make A Gift" button at the righthand side of this page.
